Amanda Palmer. At the Forum. Playing a Nick Cave cover. With Paul Kelly and Mick Harvey.
For a Bostonian, that's pretty fucking Melbourne.

You and me both.
I'm right there with you. I love Murder Ballads (especially the last track -- iic it's a Dylan cover?) but Into My Arms was fucking awful and I've only really paid attention to the singles since (Grinderman aside), but he's just not for me anymore.

It has "O Children" on it. Which is brilliant.

To be fair, the title track is alright. But that's what I mean - for me, Nick Cave shouldn't be just 'alright'. It should be the disgusting delight of 'Scum', the storytelling of 'Jack's Shadow', the juddering beauty of 'Sunday's Slave', the despair of 'Knocking on Joe' or 'A Box for Black Paul'. This music was really formative to me, since my friend's big sister (who's now a pretty cool artist - Lyndal Walker) made me a mixed tape of Bad Seeds and Birthday Party when I was 14.
His later work just seems a bit ... easy listening.
I do tend to have cut-off points. The Cure has been dead to me since Disintegration.

Never for a minute do I think that artists should preserve the sound of their youth. It's important for their work to develop and mature. Which is why I stop listening at the point I stop liking it :)

Yes, my only disappointment is that the line she fudged was my favourite in the whole song (it is indeed its most poignant moment). But I could see she was pretty disappointed too, so she's forgiven :)
Let me know if you'd like a copy of the record. Radiohead have so much cash they're giving their albums away these days.
