Lab Report

On Saturday night, [profile] andricongirl  and I attended the Labyrinth Masked Ball.

We didn't really know what to expect. The organisers' aim was to reproduce the masked ball scene from the Jim Henson movie. I was imagining a nightclub with fancy dress. It was actually more fancy dress with children's party games.

But it was a lot fun. We had -- if you'll forgive me -- a ball. And some of the costumes were just magnificent.

Having spent the week up in Sydney at X World, I hadn't had time to put anything quite so impressive together myself. I pulled out my old satin goth shirt and A. very kindly made me a felt wolf mask at the last minute, which looked like a cross between Wile E. Coyote and Basil Brush. She opted for a classic white eyemask, and one of my ties.

We were a bit too "cool" to partake in the games (musical chairs, a Cluedo-style mystery). Mostly we chatted to people, and admired the costumes, and averted our eyes when the gentleman in the crotch-hugging leotard walked past.

There were a few problems with the PA, which meant the organisers had to shout the rules for the various games over the crowd. But everyone seemed to be having a good time. And I'm already planning my costume for next year.

A. has photos here, including [profile] mousebane  in motely, and [personal profile] viscera  in clockwork and cleavage.
