Yes, it's throwaway pop. But it's sassy throwaway pop. And it builds up to a magnificent climax.
I was pretty snooty the first time I heard it. I was all "Mister Gary Numan* called, and inquired as to when his bassline would be returned."
But it's the 21st Century. They have this thing called sampling now. I'm good with it.
