[staff profile] mark posting in [site community profile] dw_maintenance

Happy Saturday!

I'm going to be doing a little maintenance today. It will likely cause a tiny interruption of service (specifically for www.dreamwidth.org) on the order of 2-3 minutes while some settings propagate. If you're on a journal page, that should still work throughout!

If it doesn't work, the rollback plan is pretty quick, I'm just toggling a setting on how traffic gets to the site. I'll update this post if something goes wrong, but don't anticipate any interruption to be longer than 10 minutes even in a rollback situation.

I've started re-watching Fellowship of the Rings, possibly for the first time in 20 years, or 15?.
Either way....
I know I haven't watched it in 10 years, and I am not sure I've watched it in 2010 when I returned from New Zealand.
It's wild, I'd walked some of those places as a kid, and as an adult, more.
It's interesting as a a film. Some of the SFX are dated, and I can see the compositing.

Still, some of the acting is subtle.

And, because I have been reviving my D&D brain cells lately, there are parts of the movie I recognise in the post LOTR books (REF's Magician, the Eddings' Belgariad, and a million more. (plus all of the shit D&D books).

It is hard to argue that LOTR isn't the best "high fantasy" movie ever.
