From today's Age:
Students set to lose control of union to administrator
The Melbourne University Student Union appears likely to be taken over by an administrator after its president and three trade unions said the student body was in such crisis that power had to be taken from student leaders and management.
The university's governing council wants the MUSU to accept an independent financial administrator following months of chaos and a series of auditor and legal reviews detailed huge financial loses and power plays that have crippled the union.
The council threatened to force the appointment of the administrator unless the union rectified by today flaws that led to 18 major breaches of rules under which the union spends a $9 million-plus annual budget.
I can't help but think this is what the current Student President and his Labour Right cronies were after all along: to break up the Union, and thus prevent the socialist left students using union money for their campaigns.
Let me go talk to my sources...
