Caught the last day of the Man Ray photography exhibiton at the National Gallery yesterday.
He's best known for his solarized nudes, and his Rayograms (placing objects directly onto a sheet of photographic paper, and exposing it to light). But the photos that really captured me were his shots of mathematical models from the Institut Henri Poincaré.
The models were essential three dimensional graphs of mathematical equations. The resulting shapes are purely abstract, totally unrelated to the world of art. And yet in their abstraction lies an alien beauty, that we cannot help but interpret as artistic.
Today I have the day off.
And I signed up for NaNoWriMo. I have two potential ideas to run with: one, a surreal office satire, has striking imagery, but no plot. The other, an old fashioned Southern Gothic about small town doctors, has a plot, but will require considerable research.
We shall see.
