Nike rips off classic Minor Threat album cover art to promote thier stupid skateboard shoes.

Proving once again that Nike are shoes for arseholes.

The Dischord Records news section has a link to where you can email Nike and complain. For what it's worth, here's what I said:

Stealing the Minor Threat artwork for your ads? Real clever.

If you were trying to appeal to the hardcore scene, all you've done is insult them. And if you weren't, well, you've just tagged Nike wearers as wannabe posers.

So how much did you pay for that campaign again?

It sort of brings to mind that old interview in which Vanilla Ice attempted to defend the difference between "Ice Ice Baby" and "Under Pressure" ("dun dun dun duh-duh-duh dun" vs. "DUN dun dun dun duh-duh-duh dun").

I don't know anything about Minor Threat, but I recall Vanilla Ice trying to spin that one.

Who will win? The shoe-maker, of course.

Looking at it, i'd say it's not so much a sneaky rip-off as a conscious subcultural reference to gain insider credibility. Only problem is it's Nike, so anyone who'd even get that reference would probably never buy their product in the first place.

(Then again, what would i know about what The Kidz believe in nowdays?)
