Currently livid about John Howard's comments on the PlaySchool thing.
From The Age:
Prime Minister John Howard yesterday accused the ABC of running an agenda with its reference to lesbian parents on Play School
Their agenda being, presumably, that children of gay couple might not grow up to be little homophobes susceptible to Howard's cynical attempts to win votes.
Whether or not a single segement on a show that airs five times a week constitutes an agenda is debatable. But even if it does, encouraging tolerance seems laudable, as agendas go . It certainly beats Mr. Howard's agenda of cultivating bigotry to split the Labour party vote.
And frankly it's a bit rich having the Howard government lecture us on the best way to raise children when they violate the International Convention on the Rights of the Child by locking kids up in detention centres.
I was particulary incensed at this:
Mr Anderson took a shot at Labor leader Mark Latham, saying he should stick by his principle of championing the role of fathers.
"Would he read this to his kids? I doubt he would. I think he'd feel uncomfortable," he said. "We know that from an incredibly early age children of both sexes look to mum for nurture and warmth, dad for stimulation and play."
Because we all know lesbians can't play footy, right?
