Like a (Lead) Fish.
Jun. 25th, 2004 05:22 pmI've been swimming.
There's a pool at Melbourne Uni. I need to get fit. Thus, swimming.
Some people have suggested the dark, cold middle of winter is a strange time to take up aquatic exercise. But there is a reason. Before this week, I haven't swum for at least five years, possibly ten. So my technique is not so much rusty as gone. As is my strength, endurance, and lung capacity. I flounder my way to one end of the pool, pause several minutes for breath, and then flounder back.
Wherein lies my reasoning. It's winter. The pool is deserted. Semester starts again in four weeks, when the pool will fill with muscular young men and lithe young women.
Which gives me four weeks to boost my technique from "embarrasing" to merely "piss weak."
