I've been swimming.
There's a pool at Melbourne Uni. I need to get fit. Thus, swimming.
Some people have suggested the dark, cold middle of winter is a strange time to take up aquatic exercise. But there is a reason. Before this week, I haven't swum for at least five years, possibly ten. So my technique is not so much rusty as gone. As is my strength, endurance, and lung capacity. I flounder my way to one end of the pool, pause several minutes for breath, and then flounder back.
Wherein lies my reasoning. It's winter. The pool is deserted. Semester starts again in four weeks, when the pool will fill with muscular young men and lithe young women.
Which gives me four weeks to boost my technique from "embarrasing" to merely "piss weak."

Date: 2004-06-25 03:50 am (UTC)Instead I plan to go home and by home I mean to my parents farm. There I can go for long walks I'd like to think I'll do some running, but let's face it I won't. I may even go horse riding, but that's not really doing a hell of a lot to get me fit... but I'll be moving and outdoors so it kinda counts.
Go you.

Date: 2004-06-27 06:59 pm (UTC)However sporty indoor pools mainly for lap swimming still tend to be a bit cold for me. I'm more the pool full of old lady's doing water aerobics or hydroterapy levels of heated :)
Could you maybe see if there is a sign up saying what temperature the indoor pool at uni is heated too?
I'm curious :)
