Vegetarian Orgasm
Oct. 16th, 2004 11:15 amWent to Vegetarian Orgasmin Gertrude Street for dinner last night, with
andricongirl and
jan_event and Alex-who-doesn't-have-an-LJ.
I'm not actually a vegetarian. But
andricongirl is. And I have my own weird dietary restrictions, being both gluten and dairy intolerant. So it was a pleasure to find a restaurant that is not only veggo, but also serves lots of vegan (ie no dairy) and gluten-free meals.
Huzzah! A place we can actually eat!
I had a Thai green curry with papadums and chutney. Angelica had a burrito. The consensus was the meals were good rather than exceptional. Which is a little dissapointing, given the main cost around $15, and you can get some great vegetarian meals for less. But not so disappointing I won't be back. I'm definately keen to try some of the other dishes.
And after mains we had dessert. Which is where the trouble started.
See, they have cakes. Vegan cakes. Many of which are wheat-free. And served with vegan ice-cream.
I don't get to eat many cakes, what with the gluten intolerance and all. So I had to try one. Alex had had to leave by this stage, but JAn and Angelica wanted dessert too.
They almost killed us.
We're talking peppermint pie. We're talking peanut-chocolate-caramel-nougart cake. We're talking diabetic coma on a plate - sweeter than opium, heavier than lead. My head kept going swimmy. Angelica and JAn had to take a coffee break half way through eating thiers. By the time we finished, we felt like a trinity of Mr Creosotes.
Was yummy, but.
In summary... mains were good rather than exceptional. Desserts were amazing, but could possibly kill you. Add coffees and drinks, and we were paying about $25-$30 each for a meal.
Ambulance rides home were, sadly, not included.
