Eye Opening
May. 16th, 2007 09:32 pmAfter seeing Nine Inch Nails on Sunday night, barely sleeping Monday night, and then seeing NIN again last night, I thought today would be a write-off. But I was actually more awake than yesterday.
After work, I dropped by the opening of Through Different Eyes, a photographic exhibition at the George Paton Gallery. A group of volunteers travelled to India live in a children's shelter and run creative arts workshops.
I was only planning to stay for half an hour. But then a co-worker told me that Tim Costello was giving a speech for the opening.
Costello opened with a joke about his brother back in his university days, then segued into a comparison between how poorly his generation had engaged with the great global issues, and the engagement of this younger generation.
He's an impressive speaker, both relaxed and inspiring. I was particularly struck by one of his phrases - all that seperates us, with our clean water and wealth, and the Indian orphans is a "lottery of lattitude".
