I haven't posted in ages, have I?

FRIDAY: BAD RELIGION

I like Bad Religion a lot. But I was feeling tired and run down and not really in the mood for a punk rock concert. Still, I met up with A. after work, had dinner, and made our way down to Festival Hall.

God damn that venue is disgusting.

The sound was muddy. Sweaty guys kept pushing past us, spilling beer. We were surrounded by smokers. Someone threw a firecracker at the bouncers. And some guy vomited right next to us, splashing us with his spew.

Awesome.

The band wear tight and energetic, for a bunch of middle-aged punks. They played "Skyscraper" and "Fuck Armageddon, This is Hell" and "American Jesus". The mosh-pit was insane.

But it all just made me feel old and out of place. And A. was clearly hating every second of it. I felt guilty for dragging her along.

Afterwards, walking to the tram stop, we overheard a bunch of young kids saying that it was the best gig they've ever been to.

Maybe I am just old...

SATURDAY:

Karate in the morning, wearing my new canvas gi. It weighed a ton and was as stiff as cardboard.

In the afternoon, we wandered down Chapel Street to meet up with Jason Badower, who was signing copies of his Heroes comic book at Comics R Us. He was surrounded by giggling teenage fangirls.

We had a late lunch together, chatting about TV shows, then A and I went home to catch up on the new season of Heroes (improving plot wise, but the characters are still flat and obvious), and watch more Flight of the Conchords (funny).

SUNDAY: NICK CAVE EXHIBITION

The Arts Centre has a free exhibition of Nick Cave's personal objects. There's diaries and notebooks full of scribbled song lyrics, but also photographs, books from his library, the original manuscript for And the Ass Saw the Angel, and one of his old suits.

THe funniest part was watching all the rockers with tattoos mingling with all the old couples who looked like they were on their way to their regular Sunday afternoon luncheon at the Arts Centre Cafe, and just thought they'd have a peek at this exhibition.

Of course, given how long old Nick has been around, they were probably fans from the Boys Next Door days.
