Street Art and Artificial Suns
Jun. 10th, 2010 09:34 pmThere's a miniature sun floating over Federation Square.

It's part of The Light In Winter festival. The sun is an installation piece called Solar Equation -- the largest tethered balloon in the world, with computer simulated solar topography projected on it. You can download an iPhone app that lets you play with the parameters of the simulation.
The effect is both beautiful and ominous. Or maybe I've just watched too much Doctor Who.
We were in Fed Square because we went to see Exit Through The Gift Shop, the "documentary" about Banksy, Shepard Fairley and other street artists. (Documentary is in quotes there for a reason, but it would be spoilery to say what it is. )
Go see it, though, if you can. It's very funny, and footage of street artists in action is very inspiring.
