Dandelion Wine
Aug. 25th, 2003 06:36 pmI was right. Dandelion Wine were good. Very good.
Ethereal Dead Can Dance-esque vocals. Dulcimers, both Appalachian and hammered. And some swirly, trip-hop beats underneath. There was even some jazz flute, played over power-chord guitar. Had a bit of a Jethro Tull flashback there, but it was still good. Occasionally the singer veered a bit too close to jazz funk for both my tastes and her voice. But mostly it was swirling and lush and hypnotic. Perfect music for a winter's night in Melbourne.
The cute, daggy redhead on vocals didn't hurt, either.
We saw them at the Rob Roy. Which seems to be a nice little pub for bands. The red velvet curtains behind the stage were a nice touch.
(Hmm...
The Devastations are playing there on the same night as
usekh's party. Been meaning to check them out. Might be able to wander down there later in the night.)
