There were student elections held at Melbourne Uni Student Union last week. And what a joyride of slander, corruption and bribery that was.

In the meantime, it's all ended up in the courts.

THE STORY SO FAR

• Melbourne University Students Union signs deal to lease student accommodation in the city for $2.3 million a year for 20 years.

• Union's auditor warns the deal could send the union broke.

• Melbourne University says it wants nothing to do with the venture.

• Amid claims of widespread theft and mismanagement, the university appoints Ernst & Young to uncover what MUSU does with $13.5 million a year, including $7.7 million in fees paid by 39,000 students.

• Five members of the union's governing council resign amid fears they could be held legally responsible for deals that may cost the union millions of dollars.

• Ernst & Young report produces damning evidence of the union's finances.

• Bitter power plays divide MUSU, leading to dismissals of elected officers in power play.

• Dismissed executive council member, Tim O Halloran, takes legal action against MUSU and union president, Scott Crawford, in the Magistrates Court.


I should point out that MUSU is my employer. Fun fun fun.

I was about to call you guys and see if you wanted me back. Actually, I might still do that. All this has happened over the last few years though, right? I mean, I seem to remember hearing about the report when I was still at the SCC - though I don't remember ever hearing about the results. Or was that another report?

This is the sort of thing that a book could be written about.

Presumably a different report. New of the property deal only realy came to with this year's annual audit, which was released in July(?).

As for coming back... you could ask, but we barely have the budget to cover the current casual staff.
