Some of you may know that Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean have made a film together called MirrorMask.

Neil Gaiman was at Continuum 3 this weekend. He showed clips from the film. It looks absolutely beautiful.

And then he said Sony Pictures currently do not plan to release MirrorMask in Australia.

If you want to see it, he urged, then you should write a letter to Sony and ask them politely to reconsider.

And he emphasised it should be a letter, written on paper, rather than an email or a petition. Emails get ignored, and a petition with 200 signatures is only one thing, and therefore not as persuasive as 200 seperate letters with one signature each.

The address to write to is:

Managing Director of Film Distribution
Sony Pictures
Level 30/1 Market Street
Sydney, NSW 2000

Please repost or pass this information on to anyone who might be interested.

EDIT: MIRRORMASK WILL BE RELEASED IN AUSTRALIA
Neil Gaiman announced at the State Library last night that MirrorMask will be released in Australia after all. No release dates as yet, though.

Not exactly on topic, but I hear congratulations are in order.

Well done!

You know what might work: Getting people on board at the Serenity previews.
I mean, what shows the power of fandom better than Serenity?

I'd suggest trying to set the Mirrormask trailer shown at Serenity, but I think that'd be impossible.

It's a good idea. Well, it is from a fan's point of view. Studio execs might complain about diluting the message.

I don't know if anyone has actually started organising a "MirrorMask Down Under" campaign. I'm trying to find out.

I rang Sony Pictures today to get the name of the person we need to send the letters to and was put through to Ross Entwistle's office. According to Michelle while they don't have a specific release date for Mirrormask they don't have anything specific that they're *not* releasing it either.

While it could be as simple as a misunderstanding I'm sure a few hundred letters wouldn't hurt getting a confirmation of release (even if the date itself is still tentative).

Okay, cool.

I interviewed Gaiman this morning, and he seemed to think letters were a good idea (again - letters, not petitions).

Do you know if anyone is organising this campaign?

Daisy Little was the one who started the form letters and the petition at Continuum. (She's one of these weird people with no LJ)
