In 1947, the mutilated corpse of Elizabeth Short was found in park of Los Angeles. Newspapers dubbed her the Black Dahlia. Her murder was never solved. Crime writer James Elroy wrote a fictionalised novel about her murder. Now Brian De Palma has made a film of the novel.
Things I liked about the movie:
- The 40's costumes
- The 40's 'tough guy' attitude
- The 40's style convoluted film noir plot
Things I didn't like:
- The 40's style wooden acting
- The 40's style histrionic score
Things that didn't fit the whole 40's vibe:
- The graphic violence
- The lesbian big-band dance number
Things that sound more exciting than they actually were:
- Scarlett Johannson in period underwear. Again.
