Real Life Superheroes.
Jan. 15th, 2011 08:25 pmOver at Boing Boing, they have a post about a "real life superhero" in Seattle named Pheonix Jones, who had his nose broken and a gun pulled on him after he tried to break up a fight.
The news report feels like it was written by Frank Miller.
There's Phoenix Jones, tough, stoic, taking about how he's happy to put his life in danger to protect people. And then there's the police detective who looks like caricature of the wimpy liberal, down to his grey woollen cardigan and his plea for people not to insert themselves into the situation.
That was weird enough. Then I read the comments on Boing Boing. And the debate was exactly like the one in The Dark Knight Returns. from "he's a real hero" to "he's a narcissist feeding his ego."
We have fallen into a Frank Miller comic. All that's missing are the S&M hookers with nipples like sparkplugs.
