Winter

Took a walk through Parkville at lunchtime. Fallen leaves everywhere. Blue cold sky. And just the most amazing old houses.

Particularly impressive was the old Italinate-style victorian mansion. Ten rooms on a corner block, including servant quarters and a lookout tower. I desperately want a lookout tower.

And walking back I passed a ginger tomcat perched on a high brick wall. It looked old and mean and scowling. But as I walked past, it gave a pleading mewl and trotted up to be patted. So I spent a happy five minues petting the creature, and it still wanted more when I headed off.

Weekend

Friday: [livejournal.com profile] frou_frou's birthday celebrations. Started with drinks at Deco, which has a scale model of the Chrysler Building on the fridge. Gave me flashbacks to Cremaster 3, but also gave me some ideas for The Book. Then we headed down to the Moroccan Soup Bar, where there was lots of people, lots of food I could eat, and a bellydancer, but strangely no soup.

Saturday: Worked on The Book, met [livejournal.com profile] jujulian at Kent Street, then raced home to tape Doctor Who and eat fish and chips for dinner.

Sunday: Brunch at Raw, browsed the local bookstore, then headed into the city to pick up comics. Found a wholefoods store that sells vegan, gluten free pies. So I got a tofu and mushroom one for myself and a tofu and pumpkin for [livejournal.com profile] andricongirl. Then home, rested up, and went out to Golgotha.

Golgotha was... okay. Too crowded to really talk to people, or get my dance on. [livejournal.com profile] andricongirl went up to Mechanoid to photograph [livejournal.com profile] jujulian's band Bleepin' J. Squawkins, so I escorted her there and back. And just before 4am, when I was really in the mood for a classic punk set, they started playing cheesy 80's tunes.

So we left.

Monday was pleasurable write-off. Slept late. Played so much guitar I broke not one but two strings. Cooked roast vegetables for dinner, and read a bit of the MirrorMask scriptbook while the girl watched Willow.

Now I'm at work, with my head full of other worlds.
