What does it mean, anyway, to be sick as dog?

Most dogs I know are bouncy, energetic creatures. Even when they're old and arthritic, they're still bright-eyed and eager.

At the moment I feel more like some deep sea invertebrate that's been dredged up into the light: cold, limp and covered in slime.

I should be home, in bed. Or at least on the couch, watching Buffy DVDs. But my boss is sick, and I've got a ton of computers to rebuild before semester starts next Monday.

I'd kill to be sick as a dog right now.
