Songs Never Written
Aug. 12th, 2003 08:40 amI woke up this mornig with a Nick Cave song in my head. And I could hear it all: the driving bass, the apocalyptic piano, Blixa's backing vocals on the chorus.
Only problem is, Nick Cave never wrote this song.
I climbed up to Heaven with a six-gun in my hand
Kicked down the Pearly Gates and hunted down the Man
Shot down His seraphim and looked Him in the eye
I told him "All things have thier time, and now your time has come to die."
God is dead
God is dead.
God is our comfort, and God is our direction
God is the reason we will rise in resurrection
God is the love through which we will be saved
But none of this shall come to pass 'cause I put Him in His grave
God is dead
God is dead
andricongirl said I should claim it as one of my own songs. But it's not really something I would write. Although that did lead to the idea of a cover album of Songs Never Written by Famous Artists.

Note: My religious tendancies are far from such things, but at least it is something that resembles a job..... even if it is only two days a week.

Date: 2003-08-16 11:53 am (UTC)You're profoundly lucky you managed to remember it - I can never recall the lyrics of the songs I dream.
And it's a good one, too - can almost hear Nick singing it myself.
You *should* record it. If only for the backstory.

There is a little essay that should go here, about creativity, the hierarchy of mental processes, and how consciousness often just gets in the way.
But I don't have time to write it, let alone do the research. I still haven't finished the Campbell book I'm reading.
Another time, perhaps.
I once worked out the riff for Dire Strait's "Money for Nothing" in a dream. Nick Cave is a considerable improvement.
