Weekend mostly taken up with the wedding of David C, one of my oldest friends.
Friday Night:
Wedding Eve drinks and conversation at David C's. Watched more Coupling. Forming the opinion that "Jack Davenport" implies "good" (Ultraviolet, Coupling, Pirates of the Carribbean). Ended night playing Arkham Horror.
Saturday:
David C's wedding.
andricongirl and I driven up to Romsey by my sister and her fiance. Checked into winery guest house. Cricket oval, bad English cartoons on the wall. Lunch in town because winery restaurant prices were outrageous ($18 for plate of wedges).
Wedding held at Hesket House - big guest house on a bush property. Stringybark trees, a lake, tame native fauna. Very beautiful.
Ceremony held outside, next to the lake. David handsome in his tux, bride very beautiful walking around the water, instead of down the aisle. Ceremony was Wiccan/New-Age-ish, which made me cringe slightly. But I cringe at the Christian bits in funerals.
Not sure at the wisdom of invoking the elements on an overcast day, though.
Reception held at same venue, which is an excellent idea. Patted tame wallaby. Couldn't eat most of the food (cheese and/or dairy). Took photos with A*'s new digital camera, but she kept erasing them becasue she thinks I'm crap.
My sister went back to guest house early, becasue she was sick. We stayed late. Then later. Then later still, because my friend Tim was meant to give us a lift back to the guest house, but got talking to the bride about Qi Gong instead.
And when he starts, he never shuts up.
Sunday:
Breakfast in the winery's dining room. Very tired. Ornate mirror so huge A* mistook it for a window. Brief walk around grounds. Driven back to Melbourne. Started coming down sick.
Monday:
Spent day home sick. Shaved head. Watched Buffy. Slept. Doctor charged me $40 for five minutes, a prescription for antibiotics and medical certificate for only one day.
But the Nick Cave tickets arrived, so that's okay.
Tuesday:
Another day off sick. A* watching Xena. More Buffy. Caught some tabloid "Bizarre World" late night show- Burmese neck-stretching, religious self-mutilation and Dr Fritz.
Wednesday:
Back to work. Nose still running. Sudafed useless. Spent afternoon laminating little strips of paper. This is called "job satisfaction", children.
NaNoWriMo started on the weekend. Was tempted to enter, but then my November filled up.
I wanna write a novel too. Might take some time off over December and just be fashionably late.
