Sep. 14th, 2005 05:47 pmI've been sick for the last few days. Something I picked up in Perth, I suspect.
Despite this, I went to the preview screening of Serenity last night. It included a Q + A session with Joss Whedon himself afterwards, and then a marathon signing session.
This was the second time I've seen the film. I appreciated it a lot more than last time, when my face was jammed up against the screen.
It has a few flaws. But it's great film. I think it will even work with a crowd that doesn't know Firefly. As a friend pointed out - what newcomers lack in emotional attachment to the characters should easily be balanced out by discovering how cool they all are for the first time.
I hope it does well. I want sequels, dammit.
After the movie, Joss answered questions for about an hour. He was exhausted from his hectic promotion schedule, but still managed to be charming, witty, and occasionally profound. The audience's questions were generally intelligent and interesting.
And after that, they began the signing. The audience came up row by row. We were in the second last one. It was almost 2 am by the time we got to him. I commented that he must be exhausted, and meeped pitifully in agreement. Wish I brought my Buffy script book, rather than just getting him to sign one of the A5 Serenity fliers they were handing out.
So now I've met both Neil Gaiman and Joss Whedon in the same year. My two biggest story-telling idols. And we got a NIN tour. It's like the Geek heavens have aligned.
Today is my birthday. I am very, very tired.
Dinner with my family at Vegetarian Orgasm, then sweet, sweet sleep.

Date: 2005-09-14 08:08 am (UTC)Perth, from what I saw of it, was windoy and raining. I had my laptop at the conference, but my AirPort card was playing up so I couldn't post.
Meeting
And the sun came out on the day I flew out.

Jayne keeps his shirt on, but we definately see some nipple through it.
Both Inara and River pump up the cleavage.
And Kaylee talks dirty.

I read that as *singing*, and thought 'cult following' had been taken to a scary new level.
