Back to work
Oct. 4th, 2005 06:50 pmBack to work this week. Holiday was spent reading, watching DVDs, catching up with friends, shopping for clothes and failing to buy any, and seeing Serenity yet again.
Speaking of which: the box office results are in for the first weekends takings are in and they are... middling. Not a complete flop, but not a blazing success either. It took about $10 million in the US, coming second to the Jodie Foster thriller Flightplan. In Australia, it took just over a million, and came in sixth.
The hope is word of mouth will spread, and it will hold steady in its second weekend. Fans on the internet are urging other fans to see it again, and drag new people with them. Part of me feels I should, to support the cause. But the rest of me is thinking I've seen it three times already, I'm short on cash, and the film with either find an audience among the non-fans or it won't.
There's quite a good review over at Locus about the movie - the reviewer loved the film, but still happily dissects some of the faults in Whedon's writing.
