Darkl Crystal sequel announced.
May. 16th, 2005 05:18 pmThe Jim Henson Company has announced they're making a sequel to the Dark Crystal. And not just another movie, but also games and an animated series.
They use the word "franchise" in the press release. That's not a good sign.
The Dark Crystal (and Labyrinth) were far more formative for me than Star Wars. In the World of the Dark Crystal, it mentions that the world may be triangular in shape, and that just blew me away. As much as I appreciate Tolkienesque pseudo-realism, I loved the idea of a world that was so blatently fantastical. It's same appeal as M. C. Escher's contorted realities, or Iain Banks's The Bridge.
Mind you, I've not watched Crystal in about 15 years. People say it doesn't hold up.
And as much as I loved the Dark Crystal, it held nothing that could compete with an adolescent Jennifer Connelly in her ballgown.
